It would be soo cool, if NetNewsWire could sync with this service. I love NetNewsWire. But I love to keep my data private a little bit more. So I deleted my feedly account and use nextcloud news now. Unfortunately this forced me to change my feedreader, too. I want to come back, please .
NextCloud isn’t an RSS-specific syncing system in the way FreshRSS, Feedbin, Feedly, and others are, which makes it much more challenging to work with — it’s more like working with iCloud, which doesn’t work nearly as well as the RSS-specific systems.
We may get around to considering this in the future, but for now our focus is on improving our support for the existing systems (fixing bugs, maybe even adopting some system-specific features).
For people who want a self-hosted option, I recommend — agreeing with @Axel — that FreshRSS is a great choice.
That’s a misunderstanding. Nextcloud itself is simply a cloud storage system. However, it can be expanded with apps. The Nextcloud News app ( GitHub - nextcloud/news: 📰 RSS/Atom feed reader ) is an RSS feed aggregator that supports the REST API.
Here is a list of RSS clients that work with the app: Clients - Nextcloud News App . None of them come close to NetNewsWire.
I don’t run my own server on which I could install software, but instead rent space on a managed Nextcloud system and am therefore dependent on this system. Nextcloud is becoming increasingly important in Europe due to the discussion surrounding digital sovereignty. For example, the German federal administration uses Nextcloud for their cloud store system.
I thought I’d add my two cents, for what it’s worth here to provide some context. IMHO providing integration with the NextCloud NewsApp/ Nextcloud Ecosystem would be a HUGE boost for the NetNewsWire brand/community.
The Nextcloud community is HUGE internationally. It ranges from enterprise large scale solutions, to homelab guys that are self-hosting “instances” to tinker with.
They already have OPML import/export features, and their API for integration is really stellar, and intended for both super strong security and third party app/devs to connect and integrate with their system.
I’ve been an unpaid salesman for NetNewsWire since it’s infancy, and knowing both realms I think that there would be a huge benefit if this request from @spiro was integrated in future versions/updates of NetNews Wire.
In otherwords, I second the motion! LOL!
Thanks in advance to you and the team for the consideration of this. I really look forward to seeing what can be cooked up with connection features between the platform and the NetNewsWire software suite.
