I gather [1] that it should be possible in NNW to subscribe to a “Live” feed list from Dave Winer’s Feedland, if i simply “Go to File → New Web OPML Subscription and paste your FeedLand OPML URL.”
The problem (actually 2 problems) is that i can neither (a) find the OPML URL at Feedland.com nor (b) find any “File : New Web OPML Subscription” option in NNW. If i go “File : Import Subscriptions” i can import an OPML file from my computer- which i have done -but that is a static list that does not reflect updates that i make in my subscription list at Feedland. So any Feedland user can point me to my online OPML file- Cool! -but then where can one plug it into NNW (v7.0.6)?
[1] Given that it was Claude Code (Opus 4.8) that told me this should be possible and how, i may be chasing down a blind alley, but given the long history of Mr’s Winer & Simmons collaboration about these standards, i should be surprised if there is no such interop to be had here.
Claude made that up — we don’t have that feature. It’s on the bug tracker somewhere as a feature request, but we haven’t gotten to it yet.
The question is: how does this work with syncing? Do we limit it to just local and iCloud accounts? Do some of the sync systems already support this feature, and is there an API to subscribe to an OPML file for each of those sync systems?
(The technical part of this isn’t difficult. It’s just a matter of figuring out all the user experience issues around this feature. We probably haven’t thought of all of them.)
Ah well… Thanks @brent for the quick clarifier. No point even trying to implement such feature in NNW, i guess, absent a live OPML feed to which one might subscribe; i was counting on that part at least to exist, but i cannot find it in the Feedland UI, nor can i ask about it in the official support channel, which appears to be closed.
For what it’s worth: i find the concept of Feedland pretty compelling: it returns RSS to its public, social roots, uses rssCloud for instant updates, and has a lightweight UI that makes browsing and subscribing to the feeds of others perfectly natural. Having Feedland as channel manager/ publisher, and NNW as feed reader, would be for me a match made in heaven… So if such a feature were ever to get onto the dev road map, you can count me in as a tester!
PS: I found the URL for my OPML Feedland.org list… AND i found another way to sync that list into NNW, via FreshRSS, which i have installed on my MacMiniPro server, and configured it as the bridge. Needed to eliminate some channels from my sub list at Feedland- duplicates of the default list in NNW -which changes should propagate through tonight (a 12-hour delay parameter that is fixed in FreshRSS), so we shall see. So far: looks like a great solution, which obviates the need for any sync other than FreshRSS -very nicely implemented in NNW!
