Attribution for a custom iOS app

I’m part of a group that maintains a TestFlight build of NetNewsWire with fixes and customizations. We’re going to publish the app in the App Store. How do you want us to attribute your app in our about screen?

We don’t want people to confuse our customized build with NetNewsWire. We’re setting the price at $100 to discourage purchases but donate most of the money. Only about 1/3 of our 700 users are interested in converting.

Thanks for asking!

First thing — the name should not include NetNewsWire or anything like it (NetNewsFire, for instance, would be too confusing). I figure you’ve already got that part dealt with, but thought I should mention it just in case.

Second thing — here’s how I’d like the attribution to read. This app is based on the NetNewsWire open source project, but is not a part of that project. If the word NetNewsWire can be a link, it should link to https://netnewswire.com/ — but if it can’t be a link, add a button or something that opens https://netnewswire.com/ in the browser.

Last thing — I’m super curious. What are the fixes and customizations?

We’ll comply with that and post screenshots of the App Store description and app before publishing. Thank you for developing this app!

Another thing I thought of: please don’t include NetNewsWire in your user-agent. (You probably already thought of that, but I figured I’d mention it just in case.)

Another thing — if you have article themes that are compatible with NetNewsWire, it would be a nice gesture to the community if you made those publicly available.
