App Store User-ID

According to the App Store, the iOS version of NetNewsWire collects the user ID. I’m wondering what this data is needed for?

Logging in to services.

Which services are we talking about? There are other RSS readers that don’t collect any data. That’s why I don’t understand why this is necessary for RSS.

The Privacy Nutrition labels on the App Store are optional. Not declaring is not the same as not collecting. For NetNewsWire we erred on the side of caution. While the below are used, they are absolutely not tied to your identity:

User identifiers collected:

• Email addresses (Feedbin)

• Usernames (NewsBlur, Reader API services like Inoreader, BazQux, FreshRSS, TheOldReader)

• OAuth tokens (Feedly)

• Session IDs/cookies (NewsBlur)

• iCloud identity (CloudKit - implicit via system)

Storage: All credentials are stored encrypted in the iOS/macOS Keychain.

No analytics/telemetry: There is no user tracking, analytics services, or transmission of user data for purposes other than authentication with the sync services.

Thanks for the explanation.

I’m not even sure we have to say we’re collecting that information since it’s stored on device. But, again, as @stuartbreckenridge writes, we erred on the side of caution.
