I know a lot of feedback platforms use Discord, but we use Discourse here. Why?
I presume for the same reasons he project no longer uses Slack: you can’t link to conversations and they’re deleted. See the announcement.

Exactly — Discourse is part of the web and Slack and Discord are not.

Well tbh the actually makes perfect sense. And while the Discourse app is ok, it could be better. I feel like it’s just a wrapper.
Also, being in a Discord forum has a bit of the feel of being in a casino. (I love casinos. Once in a while. I wouldn’t want to try to work in one, or have a nice quiet conversation about software in one.)

Discourse leaves something to be desired, but what’s great about it is you can read latest posts from forum about RSS reader via RSS reader itself, which feels just right. Discord was made for voice chats for video games and if Discourse feels like a wrapper, Discord doesn’t even try to look like anything good on any platform and its desktop apps are Electron crap at it’s worst.
It makes me sad when I see a project using Discord for support or feedback. There is a limit on how many servers you can join and for free accounts it’s not even all that big. Should I really pay for a privilege to follow interesting projects? Then, the only known to me way of tracking news on Discord servers is notifications, which is awful and I have them disabled almost everywhere. Checking servers every day whether they posted something sounds stupid and it would be even more stupid for a RSS reader which is the solution to the problem of tracking news. Third, Discord UI always felt overloaded to me and it was a pain to find anything I looked for and I have a suspicion their search algorithm isn’t good.
And the worst crime not even of Discord but of some of its users is that they use it as an image/file hosting, sometimes for important stuff, which gets later deleted by Discord since it’s not a hosting. It’s critical for a forum about software to keep messages and media which also should be searched from open web.

Discord locked my account a while back. My offence appeared to be changing my login email away from gmail. They want a phone number to unlock it! Just no.
