I have a long list of feeds categorized in folders based on topic. Many of these feeds (especially news sites) are way too active to keep up with them on a regular basis, but I do want to check them occasionally. So the existing Smart Feeds for Today and All Unread have too much noise to find the more useful nuggets I want to read in my less active feeds. This is causing me to miss important or timely posts in the “quiet” feeds.

I would love to be able to mark these less active feeds as Favorite or Starred just like we can mark an article as Starred and easily refer back to it. Then there could be a Smart Feed for Favorite Feeds or Starred Feeds to easily group these new articles in one place.

Alternatively, I could manually create my own folder called Favorite Feeds and then move those feeds into it. But that would completely mess up my filing system because they would no longer be categorized by topic but rather by priority or volume.

I found a very old request (from 8 years ago) in the bug / issues tracker here:

[Allow to favour feeds #512](https://github.com/Ranchero-Software/NetNewsWire/issues/512)

Is there any interest in this, or am I the only other one? Is there a better way to do what I am suggesting? Thanks!

If you’re using the On My Mac/iPhone/iPad account or iCloud, then you can have feeds in multiple places. Hold down option while dragging to copy the feed instead of moving it.

This way you could have a feed in (for instance) a Blogs folder but also in a Favorites folder.

But, regardless, I hear you about having a way to designate favorite feeds.

Thanks for this tip! It may be a perfect solution for my request. I didn’t realize it was possible to copy a feed without creating a whole separate set of post statuses. This behaves more like creating a hard link in a filesystem where everything is kept consistent in both places. I see it also syncs perfectly to the iOS app from my Mac using iCloud. This is a huge improvement to help me keep up to date with the most important feeds.

On a more general note, I really like this app and appreciate your development expertise, time, and effort, especially including the native Mac OS and iOS apps, the website, this forum, and everything else you’ve done to make it a polished and useful product.

Thank you, Brent!

maybe extending to tags would help ?

also - if i have a feed in two folders and i read the post in one of the folders - does the other folder also mark it as read - or is it also now unread?

If you have a feed in two folders (in the same account), and you mark an article as read in one location, it’s marked read in the other location also.

(It’s just one feed in the database, even though it appears in two folders.)
