on my MacBook Pro i cannot delete a single article , i can delete a feed but not individually article. , my delete is “grey out” and right click does not have a delete , the delete button wont do it either when the article is highlighted , this part should be simple , please explain

Deleting articles isn’t a feature of NetNewsWire — instead, articles delete themselves after a period of time. (Unless you have marked them as starred.)

Thank you I like your program but I want more control over it so I just deleted your program. Find an important to be able to delete the articles when I want to not when the program tells me so thank you very much and thanks for your hard work, but I’ll move on.

@ptflyer : NewNetWire is not made to store articles/news. A recommend workflow for RSS readers like NewsNetWire is:

  1. Subscribe to various feeds via NewsNetWire.
  2. Checking the feed news and articles in NewsNetWire.
  3. Mark the important ones as “Starred” (these will be kept and not deleted after some time), or
  4. Open the news article in a browser.
  5. Save the article in a “Read-Later” app like Obsidian, DevonThink or Bear. Here the article stored “forever”.

I use Bear to I organise lots of articles, using various folders, tags and so on. It means: NewsNetWire informs me about new articles and news. If an article seems to be important to me and I want to keep it for later, then I open it in a browser. With the Bear-extension (for e.g. Safari) I import this article (without advertisement and other disturbing elements from the website) to Bear. Works perfect.

Yes, same process here (except for Bear). NetNewsWire is my main tool to check and get news. The ones I want to keep reference are going elsewhere into my system.

This query appears to be another flavour of how do I hide articles I have already read.

Personally when I am looking at All Unread (as I usually do) I often click the “Clean Up” button in the Toolbar to shorten the article list by hiding the greyed out read articles.

This button is not displayed by default. You can display it by right clicking on the Toolbar to select “Customize Toolbar…” and dragging the soap bubbles icon to a Toolbar position of your choice.

However! Now that I check, “Clean up” is also available under the “View” menu as “Clean up articles” where it sports the keyboard shortcut: Command+'.

I think I’ll use that from now on! :keyboard: :smiley:

Side note: this might seem like a chore, and it kinda is, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Hiding read articles is a destructive change as you’ll need to look elsewhere to find a read and hidden article again.
